The Nevada Health COOP was declared insolvent on October 2016. In 2015 Assurant Health declared insolvent and terminated its operations for major medical insurance. Over 1500 employees were left unemployed.
St. Mary's Health Plan of Northern Nevada became Prominence Health Insurance Company in 2016. The company serves health plan members of the entire State of Nevada. The company has a limited medical network. The "on exchange" plans offered are only HMO health insurance plans.
The other company is Health Plan of Nevada, a United Healthcare Company has declared numerous of losses and is considering exiting the Nevada Exchange for the next health insurance plan year.
Lastly, the strongest health insurer is still providing medical insurance coverage both "on exchange" and "off exchange". This health insurance carrier is the only carrier that has not changed or modified its broker/agent program or eliminated any commissions or medical providers. The company has eliminated its off and on exchange national PPO health plan for the 2017 health plan year.
Should "ObamaCare" stay, go, or be modified? As a 6 year old insurance agency the program needs to be modified to reduce medical expenses, improve medical services, reduce out of pocket medical expenses or TROOP ( true out of pocket), and maintain the provision in the reform law that prohibits a health insurer for declining an application based on a pre-existing condition.
Let's not work to repeal ObamaCare, but rather make the program stronger. As a state we need to work together to promote and protect our healthcare.
